The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau has a primary operation of investigating more laborious, complex and specialized crimes, that are not practical for patrol deputies to investigate. The Detective Bureau is made up of:
- 7 Detectives
- 1 Narcotics Investigator (Lake Winnebago Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group – Drug Unit)
- 1 Evidence Control Specialist
- 3 School Resource Deputies
- 1 Lieutenant of Detectives
Detectives respond 24/7 to serious scenes at the request of the Patrol Division. Cases investigated by the Detective Bureau include:
- Death Investigations
- Fire/Arson Investigations
- Sexual Assault
- Child Abuse/Neglect
- Internet Crimes Against Children
- Substantial Property Crimes
- Elder Abuse
- Fraud
The Sheriff’s Office has one Detective exclusively assigned to digital forensics and crime analysis. This position is highly skilled and provides vital technical support, insight, and analysis to members of the Sheriff’s Office. The Detective Bureau is also responsible for managing the appropriate collection, seizure and preservation of evidence collected by all members of the Sheriff’s Office.
Our Evidence Control Specialist works very closely with the Fond du Lac County District Attorney’s Office and the Wisconsin State Crime Laboratories on the coordination and testing of evidence in criminal investigations.
The Sheriff’s Office has 3 School Resource Deputies assigned to the Oakfield/Amity, Laconia and Campbellsport school districts. School Resource Deputies are sworn law enforcement officers/deputies responsible for safety and crime prevention in schools and they work closely with school administrators in an effort to create a safe environment for students. The role is multi-faceted and they have specialized training to perform the many duties of a SRD. Members of the Detetive Bureau are also very active in various community engagement and educational events.
