Lieutenant of Detectives Alex Volm began his career with the Sheriff’s Office in 2011 as a Correctional Deputy. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in 2012 and attended the Law Enforcement Academy at Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton. In 2014, he was promoted to Patrol Deputy and served as a Field Training Officer until his promotion to Patrol Sergeant in 2018. Lt. Volm served as a Patrol Sergeant from 2018 through June 2021, working primarily on the overnight shift.
In June of 2021, Lt. Volm was assigned as a Detective specializing in Digital Forensics and Crime Analysis. The specialized training and knowledge of this position was vital to assisting the entire Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau and outside agencies develop case leads and provide digital evidence from cell phone, computer and online data sources.
Lt. Volm served as a Tactical Operator on the SWAT team for 7 years specializing as a less than lethal and chemical munitions instructor. Lt Volm currently serves as a member of the Crash Reconstruction Team in the capacity of a crash investigator with specialized training in the use of forensic mapping using a robotic total station to assist in crash and crime scene diagraming. Lt. Volm also serves on the Fond du Lac County Child Abduction Response Team as an Intelligence member. Lt. Volm is certified as a Defense and Arrest Tactics Instructor and a certified instructor of the Sheriff’s Office VirTra, which is a simulation and tactical firearms training tool.
